Commissioned with the task of setting up a new acadamy of design in Ulm, Bill had turned to the Danes. Initially enthusiastic about a project to get involved in realizing a New Bauhaus, Jorn was soon troubled by Bill's subordination of creativity to technology and function. Jorn refused to co-operate with the standardization and automation of society under the primacy of functionality and order. Together with Pinot Gallizio, an independent left-wing alderman in Alba, Jorn set up a workshop-laboratory in Piedmont as a prototype for an Imaginist Bauhaus, M.I.B.I. [Mouvement International pour un Bauhaus Imaginiste]. This Bauhaus was to be libertarian, without teachers and students, led solely by those collaborating, thus uniting artists from various disciplines and dedicating themselves to an anti-productivist aesthetics."
